2018

January seems to have flown in, with a solid four weeks having passed already. So far, I’ve managed to see my friends more (hurray!), I’ve been running twice (must try harder), and I’ve made several steps towards cutting down my use of plastics. With a busy start, I have a few more plans for the year ahead:

Winter Walking I went on an Intro to Winter Skills course way back in February 2016. The following winter was a bit rubbish, and I never managed to get a day out. This year I’m all kitted up and want to get out in the snow more. I have at least 4 days planned for Jan/Feb already and I’m very much looking to doing more.

Hiking While last year was focused on gaining my Mountain Leader qualification, I spent a fair bit of time out in dreich conditions and up to my knees in heather. This year, I have my sights set on doing some more interesting scrambles and ridge walks.

NC500 The North Coast 500 is a drive that covers the most northernly parts Scotland. I’ve never been further north than Torridon, so I’m quite looking forward to exploring more of Scotland with Craig.

Climbing It’s been an ambition for the past few years, but I’m keen to climb outdoors. I’ve done little bits here and there, but I’m not yet at the point where I’m confident in my anchor setup and gear placement to fire on without a bit more guidance. Hopefully this year I can make that happen!

Blair Atholl The international jamboree takes place every other year at Blair Atholl castle. I have been before as a participant in 2006 and 2010, but this year will be my first as a leader. I’m looking forward to being on the hill team and exploring more of the hills and glens around this absolutely beautiful place. Hopefully this year I’ll also earn my woodbeads.

Urban Uprising I’ve been helping with some climbing sessions with this charity. It’s fairly new, but 2018 is looking quite exciting. Time allowing, I’m hoping to get involved more regularly and maybe get round to that Climbing Wall Award assessment. Look out for the #foxytee at your local climbing centre!
